In June 2017, Community Justice Initiatives announced the Restorative Action Program scholarship recipients: Ashley Haines from Brookswood Secondary School, and Mason Block from Langley Fine Arts School. These two student mediators have been active members of their schools’ Restorative Action teams for the past few years. They have been able to implement the lessons they learned both in their school communities and in their personal lives. Both students have chosen to pursue careers where they feel that their experience with the Restorative Action Program will be a huge asset.
“I will be attending UBC for International Studies and French in hopes of becoming a high school educator and administrator. In the future, I will use the skills and activities I have attained over the years in Restorative Action to make the classroom environment one where kids will be less stressed, and truly happy to be at school.”

“Through practicing mediation and relationship skill, I am able to not only resolve problems with peace and compromise, but I am able to mentor those around me to do the same thing. Being able to pass on the teachings that have been given to me is one of the greatest gifts of all. I believe if I am able to teach others how to be confident in themselves, resolve issues, build their community and most importantly, love each other, I have done my part as a member of the Restorative Action Program.”
