What is Collaborative Sentencing?
Collaborative Sentencing is a restorative justice based program that allows those who have been harmed and those who have caused harm to participate in shaping sentencing recommendations, or other restorative options, that meet the needs of those most impacted. Working along side both Crown and Defence counsel, this program prioritizes the voices of those who are directly affected.

How can this Process Help You?
Through individual and/or collaborative meetings, this process:
- Provides an opportunity to share your story and have your experience acknowledged.
- Offers a chance to ask questions and seek understanding about the harm caused.
- Helps ensure that sentencing considers your needs for participation, meaningful amends, and healing.
- Encourages accountability and meaningful steps toward repair.
Why Consider Collaborative Sentencing?
Collaborative Sentencing offers a way for you to actively participate in shaping the outcome of your case rather than feeling like a bystander in the legal process. It allows your voice, needs, and experiences to be considered in sentencing recommendations. As this service is fully funded by the Government of Canada’s Victims Fund, this program and any consultation is provided free of charge.
