2011 Scholarship Winners

Community Justice Initiatives(CJI) in Langley, BC is pleased to announce the recipients of the Educating for Peacebuilding scholarships:  Katherine Wyne, Langley Fine Arts School and Jessica Whatley, Aldergrove Community Secondary School.  Both deserving student mediators have been active members of their school’s Restorative Action team and have been a positive influence within their schools. They have embraced the values and principles of Restorative Action and have integrated them into their school and personal lives.

“I joined Restorative Action at a very challenging time in my life. I was struggling to find peace within myself, and that made it hard for me to find peace with others. Not only did this amazing group show me how to restore relationships with others, I was able to then look at the relationship I had with myself and learn so much about who I am. Seeing how life changing Restorative Action has been to my life has made me want to pursue peace building and mediation as I go onto university”.

Katherine

Katherine will be furthering her education by studying psychology at the University of Victoria.

“I believe that a peaceful society can be achieved when we encourage accountability, healing and closure for everyone affected. As I recognized that my personal values were strongly linked to these ideals, I made the decision to participate in this program over four years at ACSS.”

Jessica

Jessica is graduating from Aldergrove Community Secondary School and has been on the Restorative Action team since 2007. She will be studying psychology and criminology at the University of the Fraser Valley.

It is with a genuine sense of gratitude that we award these two young women with the CJI Educating for Peacebuilding scholarships; gratitude for the positive influence they have had in their schools which will continue to impact many others that come into their lives.
